HBO’s star-studded drama pilot Westworld — showcased in a major way during Time Warner’s Investors Day as an upcoming series — has been given an official series order by the pay cable network.

Westworld, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, writer Lisa Joy, producer Jerry Weintraub and Warner Bros TV, was inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie and stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Miranda Otto and Jeffrey Wright.

“The best creative voices want to be part of the HBO experience,” HBO’s Richard Plepler said at the Westworld 2Investors Day, listing Westworld as a prime example. TW’s Jeff Bewkes mentioned Westworld, along with Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers, recently renewed by HBO for a second season, as examples of larger cooperation between the premium cable network and sibling studio Warner Bros TV, which is behind both dramas.

Set at an amusement park, Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.
